Melissa D. Lance is the creative mind behind Melissa Writes Books, where stories and coloring pages come to life with a mix of whimsy, heart, and a touch of humor. Inspired by her grandchildren, Dali and Banksy, Melissa writes children's books that celebrate imagination, friendship, and bravery, helping little readers see the world with wide-eyed wonder.
But Melissa's creativity doesn't stop there. For grown-ups, she designs witty, stress-relief coloring books with a twist, giving adults permission to laugh, unwind, and color outside the lines.
A proud self-published author, Melissa wears all the hats-writer, dreamer, and book promoter-and loves connecting with readers of all ages. How My Books Come to Life...
Over the past few years, I've had a few traditional publishing offers come my way. And while I'm not closing the door on that forever, right now I love being an independent author (sometimes called self-published). Why? Because it lets me share my stories with readers faster, and it gives me the freedom to keep full creative control over my books.
That means I'm not just the writer I'm also the one pulling all the pieces together. I find illustrators and cover designers, work with beta readers and editors, and make sure the inside of each book looks just right before it's printed. (Some of the formatting I do myself, some I hand off to the pros!) Once everything is ready, I upload my books to Amazon and other platforms.
Of course, once a book is live, the work isn't done-then comes the marketing and spreading the word so readers like you can find it.
